First Communion Photo Taking Tips

Like at any other big family event – a wedding, birthday or anniversary – you’ll want to have special photos to commemorate your little girl’s First Communion ceremony and party. You’ll certainly want to capture digital memories of her in her elegant first communion dress, but there’s more to it than simply snapping away. There will be lots of other hustle and bustle around the church that day – other little girls in their first communion dresses, boys running around in their suits and family members shouting and waving. Dealing with all these elements can be really frustrating and might even ruin your pictures.

Plan ahead a little to make sure everything goes smoothly and you get the perfect pictures that you want. It’s not a bad idea to take some pictures of her in her 1st communion dress before the big day. This way you’re sure to get a good shot before the stress and excitement of the event. You can take your time and not feel rushed by other parents who are waiting in line to take their pictures too.

You can also scope out a location at the church before the big day. You’ll want an area with good natural lighting and maybe some props or elements she can pose with. This way on the day of the ceremony you’ll know right where to go to take your photos, and won’t waste time testing out a bunch of different areas that might not work anyway.

Finally, make a checklist of any special shots you’d like to get. This might include a family picture, one with the priest, minister or instructor, or a pose with special classmates. Nothing’s worse than realizing a few days later that you never included so-and-so in the pictures.

Our elegant and affordable SophiasStyle.com communion dresses also help guarantee beautiful photographs. They all feature breathtakingly beautiful details that will make her feel extra special.

SophiasStyle.com | A Very Crafty Christmas

It’s still September but I don’t care – I’m getting into the holiday spirit early. Besides, Christmas decorations have been in the store for a month now and baby Christmas dresses are steadily streaming into SophiasStyle.com. I might as well join the club!

Before my kids came along, I had the time (and patience) to create elaborate Christmas crafts and decorations. Things are much more hectic with the kiddos around, but I still want some homemade festivity around the house. Luckily I found these really easy DIY tree ornaments. Literally, all you need is paper, scissors, glue and pom poms. Easy, quick and simple so it’s a great activity for kids.

Having kids also means I have less time to hunt down the perfect girls Christmas dress or boys suit, and less money to spend once I find them. Sophias Style solves both of those problems. They have a great selection of designer baby girls and toddler Christmas dresses from all the top brands – Lito, Bonnie Jean, Sweet Kids, Chic Baby and more. Maybe that’s nothing new – the department stores carry all the boutique styles too. The true Christmas miracle here is how affordable a girl Christmas dress from SophiasStyle.com is! Our styles are 20-70% off the retail tag, so there’s no reason to ever go to the mall again.

In the time it takes my kids to make this cute Christmas craft, I can go online and buy their holiday attire, all the while saving money!

Transition her Look from Summer to Fall

Great for Summer and Fall!
It’s probably a good idea to pack away her swimsuits and shorts when summer ends, but there are some Summer girls clothes you can still breathe new life into when the cooler Fall weather sets in. You’ll get more for your money by taking her boutique girls clothing into two seasons instead of just one. All it takes is a little bit of accessorizing!

This Lipstik dress is a breezy and beautiful piece of girls clothing that’s great for the Summer months. Make it wearable through Fall by adding a pair of black tights underneath. Fall weather can be bit unpredictable, so you might want a pair of thin tights for Indian summer days, and a pair of heavyweight tights for days that feel more like Mother Nature is already practicing for Winter! A black or pink pair would look great with this dress.

Keep her feet warm and toasty
Then it’s on to shoes. She’d likely pair her boutique girls clothes with flip flops or sandals in the summer, but not come October! These pink glitter flats make a stylish fashion statement, and are much better suited for dipping temperatures. They really make the pink floral pattern on the dress pop.

Finally, you can add a denim jacket over the dress or a long sleeve top underneath if her arms get too cold. I suggest a jacket or cardigan sweater because it’s perfect for the cool morning air but she can easily take it off if the Fall afternoon sun becomes a little too hot.
The perfect pair!

You can easily transition her Summer wardrobe into Fall when you shop SophiasStyle.com! Our boutique girls clothes are always discount priced, so you can easily afford to add all the accessories that will help keep her warm and lengthen the life of her clothing!

Go Online and Plan a Baby Shower

Beautiful baby girl clothes
The internet is a wonderful place. As I’ve been planning a baby shower for my sister-in-law (she’s due ANY DAY!), I’ve discovered the joys of the web. You can find tons of ideas and advice on just about any topic. Of course the best thing about the internet is online shopping!

The first stop on my online trip is SophiasStyle.com, where I can stock up on designer baby girl clothes that are up to 70% off the fancy department store tag. I’m also going to recommend shopping at Sophias Style to all the other party guests. Because their newborn baby girl clothes cost so much less than retail, we can all get a lot more bang for our bucks. Sophias Style has a great selection of everything you need for baby, including baby girl dresses, blankets, and even diaper bags for mom.

The perfect baby shower decor!
The internet has also been a huge resource in planning the food, décor and activities for the shower. I’m going to display some of the newborn girl clothes I bought on this clothesline decoration. So simple but so cute! Another very touching idea is to buy cards for various future birthdays in the baby’s life – for example, 1st, 5th, 10th, 16th and 21st. Have the party guests sign a birthday message on each card and then seal them. Give them to mom to save for the birthday girl over the years, or have an aunt or trusted family member mail them as each birthday approaches. I love activities with sentimental value!

Online I also found a recipe for mini pancakes appetizers speared on a toothpick – perfect for our brunch themed shower!

Fall Flower Girl Dresses | SophiasStyle.com

A great fall flower girl dress
The colors of weddings and flower girl dresses for Fall change along with the leaves. For Fall and Winter weddings you are more likely to see rich tones of red, orange, purple or classic black in the bridal party attire. Of course we pay attention to wedding fashion trends, and our Sophias Style flower girl dress inventory reflects that!

Red is always a great choice for a fall wedding. It’s a popular color so there are literally thousands of bridesmaids dress styles, decorations and floral arrangement ideas that incorporate this color scheme. We’re also in on the action with beautiful and affordable flower girl dresses in stunning shades of red.

This classic red flower girl dress by Sweet Kids is even more stunning in person. It is a beautiful taffeta material that is rich and luxurious to the touch. The charming rosettes create a great detail that isn’t over the top – perfect for a formal church wedding. Since red is also a Christmas color, she can wear the dress again for the holidays.

Another option is this Kids Dream flowergirl dress in a rich shade of burgundy. It’s still in the same color family but is a bit more understated than bold red. There are also black rosettes on the bodice and a small jeweled pin. This would be a stunning dress for a nighttime wedding – think lots of flowers and candles!

A stunning flower girl dress!
So many choices, such little prices! We carry hundreds of flower girl dresses that are $60 or less, helping to keep your dream wedding well within budget. Shop and see for yourself.

Girls Gifts that Will Excite Her Imagination | SophiasStyle.com

A great girls gift!
Gizmos and gadgets certainly make great gifts for girls, but how about something different this year? Give a gift that encourages her to be imaginative, creative and playful! The Melissa and Doug collection of baby girl gifts and toys is full of unique items that your little girl can put her personal stamp on. No other kid will have a toy just like hers!

I love this Make Your Own Princess Puppet kit from Melissa and Doug. The set includes a princess puppet and two wigs, two dresses, a royal treasury of sparkling jewelry and other accessories. Not only can she use her imagination to create an exciting adventure for her new friend, but she can also change her puppet’s look along the way!

Another great idea is this Melissa and Doug wooden dollhouse. It may look plain and simple now, but the possibilities for these girls toys are endless! A little paint, glue and imagination are all that’s required to make this her dream dollhouse. She’ll also probably need a hand or two as she’s decorating her new home. Girls toys that encourage teamwork and quality time with mom or dad are even better!

Her dream dollhouse!
Think outside the gift box (or bag) this holiday season and get your little girl a present she can truly make her own.

Designer Shoes are for Playing Too!

A fun Fall game!
I couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday when I saw people swimming at the outdoor pool in my apartment complex. Here it is, mid-September, and it’s still warm enough for a dip in the water.  It’s evidence that summer is still hanging around, and nothing could make me happier! I’m just hoping next weekend is as hot as this one was so I can get in on the pool party.

Even with summer on the way out, there is still plenty of time for fun outdoor activities. Many games are very simple and impromptu, so your little girl can even play outside in the same girls designer shoes she wears to school. Gather the neighborhood kids for a game of Giant Marbles (a super-sized version of the classic game):

1.      To set up: First collect as many balls as you can (soccer, beach, playground, and basketballs), then make a large circle with rope on grass or chalk on blacktop. Place all the balls into the circle and spread them out a little.
2.      To play: Players use one ball as the shooter (a heavier basketball or soccer ball works well). Standing 10 feet away, players take turns rolling this ball at the pile to try to knock out as many balls as they can without the shooter's going outside the ring. If a player knocks out any balls, he keeps them ("keepsies" in marbles lingo) and gets to go again. When the circle is empty, the player with the most keepsies wins.

Fashionable and functional shoes
This is a game is so much fun that even Moms and Dads may want to join. When you think of little girls designer shoes, you might think of glittery flats or shiny boots – not exactly playground material. But it’s simply not true- at least at SophiasStyle.com. Our collection of designer shoes for girls includes sneakers and athletic shoes that are perfect for running, kicking and jumping all day long!

Unique DIY Girls Halloween Costumes from SophiasStyle.com

She'll be a star in this Halloween costume!
It’s a good bet that Mom is involved in some way when planning girls costumes for Halloween. I always looked to my own mother for costume ideas when October rolled around, and over the years she came through with some really memorable girls Halloween costumes for me to wear. She was great at finding everyday clothing that we could transform into a costume with simple accessories.

SophiasStyle.com can help spark mom’s creativity this year. Of course our traditional Halloween costumes for girls make it simple and easy to prepare for the big night, but thinking outside the box while shopping our site can be fun too.

I browsed our Girls Casual Dresses department to find something I could transform into girls dress up clothes. This hot pink and silver coin sequin dress from Lipstik would make a perfect “pop star” costume. Add a pair of glitter tights, tall black boots and a denim jacket if it’s chilly outside. For props include a microphone or headset and she’s an instant star for the day! The best thing is that because the dress, tights, boots and jacket are not actually a costume, they can be easily incorporated into her everyday wardrobe all year round!

A pretty pageant dress costume
Pick up one of our girls pageant dresses and create a “Miss U.S.A” costume. Just add glitter heels or dress shoes, a tiara, long white gloves and a sash made from ribbon. She can wear the pageant dress again for Christmas, a wedding or other special occasion. In 7th grade I actually dressed up in this costume, and I got so many compliments from the kids at school (thanks mom!). Costumes for little girls should be about fun and creativity. It also never hurts to get a great deal on a costume too! Shop SophiasStyle.com and see what you can find.

Lito Christmas Dresses are Twice as Nice!

A beautiful Lito Christmas dress
You know the holidays are nearer when new Christmas dresses arrive everyday! We’ve been seeing a lot of Lito lately – a top quality brand that’s been a leader in girls Christmas dresses and other formal wear for more than 35 years. They provide quality and value in every beautiful keepsake garment they make.

In the past week alone, we’ve trimmed our proverbial tree with more than 20 new girl, toddler and infant Christmas dresses by Lito. Nothing says the holidays like an exquisite infant Christmas dress, but that doesn’t mean that’s all the dress has to say! For example, this beautiful navy dress with a silver rosette sash can serve double duty as both a holiday dress and a flower girl dress. Navy is a very popular color for fall and winter weddings and the silver accents add a bit of winter wonderland feel.

Your little girl will want to wear this gorgeous dress again anyway, and you’ll be happy to get twice the wear for one low price! You’ll have no trouble finding a versatile girls or infant Christmas dress by Lito – shop and see the selection at SophiasStyle.com!

Baby Gender Reveal Cake | SophiasStyle.com

Say it with cake!
A new baby trend fast catching on is the Baby Gender Reveal Cake. It’s a fun, simple and exciting way for parents-to-be to announce the gender of the baby to friends and family. The new mommy and daddy simply cut a cake to reveal pink or blue inside. Personally, I’d like my brother and sister-in-law to bake one of these. They’re expecting a baby at the end of this month, but have chosen not to reveal the sex of the baby until his or her arrival day. Luckily I don’t have to wait much longer, but I’ve been dying to know for months – should I buy newborn clothes for girls or boys?

It’s all very secretive and exciting, even for the parents. The doctor or sonogram technician writes “boy” or “girl” on a slip of paper and seals it in an envelope. Then mommy takes it to the bakery where the baker whips up either a blue or pink confection inside, with gender neutral white or chocolate frosting on the outside.  Mom and dad will be just as surprised as everyone else when they cut the cake!

New born girl clothes at SophiasStyle.com
I’m hoping for a girl because I think newborn baby girl clothes are so much more fun to shop for! The rest of the family is betting that it’s a boy. Of course we’ll all be happy no matter what –we just want a healthy baby.

Two New Fall Birthday Dresses for Your Little Girl

Decisions, decisions. Which of these adorable girls birthday dresses will you choose for your little girl? Both of these cheerful birthday dresses are from Bonnie Jean. We’ve been carrying their quality 1st birthday dresses for girls for years now, and they are always best sellers that delight both moms and birthday girls alike.

Polka dot birthday dress
Behind door number 1 is this Bonnie Jean polka dot print birthday dress with cap sleeves. The bodice is adorned with a black polka dot ribbon and bow (the perfect place to add personalized embroidery!) Attached to the bow are three pink balloons gathered in a bunch and embroidered with "Birthday Girl." There is a peek-a-book crinoline hem trimmed with black polka dot print. This dress is available in sizes 12M-4T, but maybe not for long!

Cupcake 1st birthday dress
Behind door number 2 is a more casual but still adorable first birthday dress. It features a pink and navy embroidered cupcake on the front with a cute polka dot bow. The navy blue skirt is scattered with colorful polka dots and there is peek-a-boo crinoline at the bottom hem. This comes in sizes 12M-4T and can easily be paired with leggings or a sweater if the weather turns chilly.

You really can’t go wrong with either of these first birthday dresses – or for that matter, with any first birthday dress or first birthday outfits from SophiasStyle.com!
